The Sydney News.Net Sunday 25th August, 2013

Boko Haram militant group members have viciously murdered 44 villagers in the northeast of Nigeria.

The villagers were all found with their by throats slit. Some victims who survived the onslaught had their eyes cut out.

The attack occurred in Dumba village in Borno state during the week.

It is believed the Boko Haram group have entered a new phase in their killing spree, slitting the throats of victims so as not to alert troops who may be nearby.

Last Monday, Boko Haram militants killed 35 people after shooting at Muslims leaving a mosque in Dumba.

With the shocking amount of killings, the Nigerian government has announced an offensive against Boko Haram, with a state of emergency now declared in the three north-eastern states of Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa.

Boko Haram has vowed to overthrow the Nigerian government with force if necessary.

Over the past four years, violence in the north of Nigeria has claimed the lives of over 3,600 people, most of it perpetrated by Boko Haram.
