Republican VP pick rattles Obama strategists

The Sydney News.Net
Friday 5th September, 2008

Senator Barack Obama's team has built a reputation for discipline over the past 20 months, but Republican rival John McCain's maverick selection of 44-year-old Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, has reportedly created an atmosphere of uncertainty about what lies ahead in the run-up to the November 4th presidential poll.

The Palin phenomena, a prominent Democrat said on Thursday, would make the presidential race closer.

He suggested that the Obama campaign has walked into a Republican mousetrap by demonstrating class and gender prejudice against a modern, middle-class woman.

According to The Guardian, the initial reaction from the Obama team was to criticise McCain for picking someone with so little experience, but a few hours later there was a joint statement from Obama and his vice-presidential running mate, Joe Biden, welcoming as historic the Republicans' first woman vice-presidential candidate.

Obama's team then joined in the trawl through her background and Biden went on to call her "good looking" - a comment many could regard as patronising - before saying her speech lacked substance.

The latter is the approach many Democrats thought the Obama team should have taken from the start, presenting the Republicans as the tired old party, short of ideas, in contrast to the Democrats.

Tad Devine, chief strategist for the unsuccessful 2004 presidency run by Democratic John Kerry, thinks the Palin impact will wane quickly.

He is of the view that vice-presidents normally are only prominent at three points in a campaign: when chosen, at their convention speech, and during the vice-presidential debate.

The prime task for the Democrats is to stop Palin winning over women.

turn out the lights the party is over

Palin certainly has the characteristics (boy that was a hard word for me to spell...had to look twice in the dicktionary) and she could very well outduel the Obama camp. Speaking of Dick’s I gotta go now to see Mama for a lil home smackin'...Later fellas!

u deepin it.

How silly can obama and lefty supporters be, expect a righteous woman to be VP? Righteousness belongs to the right wing Christians. Your obama is overly moral, his fans get blinded. We need a politician who is immoral and sharp like Palin to deal like the slimes in DC.

Are you saying you have kids and they are all perfect?
If so have they never made mistakes?
I know I had plenty of sex out of wedlock.
I for one have been impressed with this women doing as she believes even when painful.
The school girl comment makes you what 60+ she is 44 and has already done more with her life then most people on this planet and I would bet far more then you or even I will ever do.

It was a big mistake for Obama and his handlers not to pick Hilary as his running mate. The Clintons may have endorsed him but their die hard followers are still fuming at this insult to Hilary.

Now that McCain chose a lady to be his running mate, he has outmaneuvered the Democrat and they don’t have a clue.

Pocket “change you can believe in." You bet.

I check this woman out every time I can. It’s totally cool. The perfect example. Why, it’s getting hard to raise kids in America, no one is getting thru. She raises her kids. That is the difference.
She is a radical. I’m in it for the future of this country. The market, and all. Being gov. was the biggest factor. She can, as well as Hillary ever dreamed of she can. Oil market, no big deal. Family, no big deal. The future of America oh yes, that was it, all of it.
Military, oh well, it’s covered. No doubt.

Republican first, that’s what trumped them, I expect lots of useless mud. Fact is she’s better equipped than Hillary, so sorry.

Obama got months of time to say anything about his plans for this country, she got days. Well my bet is that if she does what comes naturally, she’ll win and turn this country around in no time.

the messianic darkness has something right but is it correct?

Turn the country around as the VP? cHENEY CERTAINLY DID! But she speaks with the same 'greased' tounge, without a signed resignation in place, it very well is likely to be 'bad to worse turn around!
