Global warming sea level rise may not be so dramatic

The Sydney News.Net
Friday 5th September, 2008

A new Colorado University study has pegged rise in sea levels to six feet by 2100, rather than the 20 feet feared by some scientists.

Calculations were made using conservative, medium and extreme glaciological assumptions for sea rise expected from Greenland, Antarctica and smaller glaciers, the three primary contributors to sea rise.

The survey team concluded the most plausible scenario, when factoring in thermal expansion due to warming waters, will lead to a total sea level rise of roughly three to to six feet by 2100.

The team found that some of the very large predictions of sea level rise are unlikely, because there is simply no way to move the ice or the water into the ocean that quickly.

They began the study by postulating future sea level rise at about two metres by 2100 produced only by Greenland.

For Greenland alone to raise sea level by two metres by 2100, they said, all of the outlet glaciers involved would need to move more than three times faster than the fastest outlet glaciers ever observed, or more than 70 times faster than they presently move.

The study concluded the outlet glaciers would have to start moving that fast today, not 10 years from now.

Global warming sea level rise may not be so dramatic

yup, the same happens again, won’t happen for a long time yet, etc, etc, so keep on poluting!! and it won’t be long and those glaciers will be moving that fast, and than nothing is there to stop them! when the water laps around your ankles will it be too late to act!

Bad Assumptions

When you drop an ice cube into a glass and it spills over do you think it is odd?

lots of thoughts or is that thought a lot

Katrina was brought on by a huge storm surge of 30cm rise in height in the oceans. But everything seems to be going back to normal as levels have decreased immeasurably (new word Mama taught me today because I was her good lil boy...you know she got the lead out of my pencil). So my predickion is that monster storms are going to make it very difficult for people to live in low lying areas!

Katrina was approximately 1cm higher ocean height, and with the direction the storm took built the huge pressure and extra water to create the damage that was worse than ever! And Today! Ocean heights are still rising! Check the British recorded heights from around the world!

If the Earth were a cup full of ice and if that were a good example.

The truth is, simply put, we went thru this radical exaggeration 80 yrs. ago. there was no global warming and the Earth really fixed itself. Why? Part of it is a result of the current age, (not the industrial), and part of it is normal to the Earths changes. There is a pollution problem but not a serious global warming.

You will find that the Earth goes thru changes in temp. more often than you think.

With all your truth, how much extra water will hanna ...

... , deposit on the shores if there is only 1 cm of rise in water height?

It could easily be an EXTRA! 81 billion gallons, in approximately one day’s time. And that is in addition to the previous worst ever amounts!

Sea level heights, especially increases, are very important. Storm facts and geography have a lot to do with the damage, but the bulk of the effects come from the volume of the water incoming, and extra water always means increases in damage!

Messianic assurances are from and for fools!

So what is the real scoop on Globull warming?

Global Warming or Global Governance?

George Stamm

If you were to ask ten people on the street if mankinds activities are causing global warming, my guess is that a majority would say yes. In fact, a Gallup poll conducted July 23-26, 2007 found that 63% believed that global warming is caused mostly by human activities. But is this perception of global warming based on fact or just misguided opinion?

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) were established in 1988 by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). These organizations shared the 2007 Noble Peace Prize with former Vice President of the United States Al Gore. These two U.N. organizations form a scientific body given the task of evaluating the risk of climate change caused by human activity. In 2005 the IPCC released a report saying that since the mid-twentieth century, the surface temperature of the earth has been rising steadily http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Instrumental_temperature_recordoceans±CF.

Mr. Gore and his colleagues at the IPCC maintain that there is an increase in global average temperatures, due to man-made intervention resulting in a greenhouse effect. They also say that natural phenomena, such as solar variation, combined with volcanoes, had little effect on global warming from pre-industrial times until 1950, and a small cooling effect from 1950 onward.

These conclusions have been endorsed by at least thirty scientific societies and academies of science, including all of the national academies of science of the major industrialized countries. However, there are many scientists, some who have served on the IPCC panel, who have voiced disagreement with many of the findings of the IPCC. One noted biologist and ecologist Dr. Michael Coffman, Executive Director of Environmental Perspectives, Inc. and CEO of Sovereignty International, said in his presentation, Global Warming or Global Governance, The global warming climate change issue is so important that people on both sides of the issue, including policymakers should be fully informed before policy is actually formulated. Tragically, thats not happening in the global warming issue. Coffman further says that what is being proposed by Al Gore and his colleagues is that man is primarily causing a global warming effect, but there is overwhelming evidence to the contrary put forth by prominent scientists from around the world.

What does the scientific evidence show?
There is evidence that many parts of the globe have experienced record cold temperatures dating back over one hundred years. According to Professor Tim Patterson, of the Dept. of Earth Sciences at Carlton University, Many things we thought we knew about the climate system just a few years ago are now proving to be uncertain or quite mistaken. Also, Dr. Robert Balling, Former Director of the Office of Climatology at Arizona State University, Its become quite news worthy to go out and tell people that we are about to have an apocalyptic climate change. And the moment you make that announcement, its easy to go around the world and find things to support that viewpoint. Dr. Vincent Gray, chemist and one of the original chief IPCC researchers, says The IPCC is a political organization setup by the UN to provide evidence to support the framework convention on climate change; its entirely political. They made up what they were going to do beforehand and choose whatever science they (IPCC) could find to support their theory.

According to Senator Chuck Hagel (R-Neb) on the Foreign Relations Committee, This cuts at the heart of national sovereignty of the U.S. We would be saying that we would allow an international body to come in and dictate to our industries, our businesses, our people, what they can do and what they cant do; the use of what energy, the sources of energy, the cost of energy, etc.

These concerns about the policymaking of such international organizations like the IPCC have led many to question whether this is an issue of global warming or global governance.

The major premise of An Inconvenient Truth by Al Gore is that carbon dioxide is the major greenhouse gas that drives the temperature of the earth. According to scientific data studied by scientists such as Dr. Ian Clark, Carbon dioxide gas (CO2) lags behind temperature changes in history by 800 years; CO2 doesnt cause temperature change. And according to Professor Tim Ball, Dept. of Climatology at the University of Winnipeg, Based on the evidence of ice core studies at the polar ice caps, it shows that CO2 follows temperature, not the opposite. So the fundamental assumption of the whole theory of climate change by human intervention of CO2 emissions causing temperature changes is wrong.

Or how about this little gem:

Evidence that the planet is tip-toeing towards the onset of a new mini ice age continues to present itself following unprecedented ice storms in Kenya as well as Sydney experiencing its coldest August for 60 years. But dont worry because according to the World Wildlife Fund, global cooling can just as easily be blamed on CO2 emissions as can global warming.

Earlier this year, China experienced its coldest winter in 100 years while northeast America was hit by record snow levels and Britain suffered its coldest April in decades as late-blooming daffodils were pounded with hail and snow on an almost daily basis.

The cold snap arrives on the back of the Sun reaching a milestone not observed in nearly 100 years - the entire month of August passed without a single sunspot being noted.

Lack of solar activity in 2008 has coincided with evidence of a cooling trend across the world.

Earlier this year, China experienced its coldest winter in 100 years while northeast America was hit by record snow levels and Britain suffered its coldest April in decades as late-blooming daffodils were pounded with hail and snow on an almost daily basis. The British summer also left many yearning for global warming, with temperatures in June and July rarely struggling to get over 16 degrees and on one occasion even dropping as low as 9 degrees in the middle of the afternoon.

Summer heat continues in short supply, continuing a trend that has dominated much of the 21st Centurys opening decade, reports the Chicago Tribune. There have been only 162 days 90 degrees or warmer at Midway Airport over the period from 2000 to 2008. Thats by far the fewest 90-degree temperatures in the opening nine years of any decade on record here since 1930.

According to an Associated Press report, The Farmers Almanac is now also predicting below-average temperatures for most of the U.S. The publication boasts of an 85 per cent accuracy rate for its forecasts which are given two years in advance.

According to a report from the World Meteorological Organization last month, the first half of 2008 was the coolest for at least five years, adding that it may actually be the coolest since 2000.

Meanwhile, Arctic ice has expanded by 30 per cent since this time last year as respected scientists predict a new mini ice age within 10 years.

Continuing the trend, parts of Kenya just experienced unprecedented ice storms after which 4 inch deep hail covered the ground.

Residents of a village in central Kenya were shocked to see a blanket of hail resembling snow covering their land, reports the BBC.

I have not seen such a thing ever since I was born, said one resident of Nyahururu.

Hail storms in western Kenya are not unknown, but the hail normally melts instantly because of high temperatures on the ground. Not this time around, and Kenyans were keen to take advantage of the rare event by enjoying numerous photo opportunities.

Meanwhile, in Sydney, Australians are talking about the big chill, the coldest August in Sydney for more than 60 years.

So whats to blame for the sudden cold snap affecting many parts of the globe? The rapid decrease in solar activity, an event that has always preceded similar mini-ice age periods throughout history?

Not according to the World Wildlife Fund, who blame human-caused CO2 emissions for the cold snap.

Thats right - in case you werent aware of the new climate change catch-all explanation, CO2 now causes global warming as well as global cooling.

All weather events, be it rainfall, storms, hurricanes, typhoons or earthquakes are also caused by CO2 emissions.

But dont worry because experts have the solution that can save us all from global warming, global cooling, or whatever the weather happens to be doing at any particular time.

At a cost to the taxpayer of around $100 billion dollars a year, as part of a program to geo-engineer the world, scientists are proposing to build a fleet of spaceships that will be sent up above the Earths atmosphere, spanning half the diameter of the entire planet, to block out the Sun from reaching parts of the globe.

But I thought CO2, and not the Sun, was the main driver of climate change?

Maybe Barney the purple dinosaur is the true culprit behind it all - but whatever the explanation - at least I can be assured that my government and the esteemed experts advising them will do their level best to tax and control every aspect of my behavior in the interests of saving us all from global warming, global cooling, or whatever else the weather decides to do tomorrow.

As we can see there is an agenda regarding Global Warming or cooling it’s called greed and control.
So many other issues out weigh global warming/cooling.
